Dana Dabek (New Jersey 2003)
Dana Dabek was already very active on campus at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) when she attended NEW Leadership New Jersey™ in 2003. At TCNJ, she was a member of the Women in Learning and Leadership program and served as president of the Women’s Center and editor of The Siren, a feminist literary magazine. She received her B.A. in women’s studies and English from The College of New Jersey and her M.A from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently working towards an MLIS degree from Rutgers University.
Dana has been involved in the Alice Paul institute, located at Ms. Paul’s childhood home in Mount Laurel NJ, since college. She was a workshop facilitator, head camp counselor, and coordinator and author of the Girls Share Their Voice report before joining the API staff. Since February 2007, she has been director of the Alice Paul Leadership Program.
NEW Leadership™ inspired Dana not only to pursue leadership positions for herself, but to instill those skills in others as well. The Alice Paul Leadership Program offers workshops for girls from elementary to high school; it introduces basic leadership skills, encourages hands-on activities, and helps girls and young women assess their strengths and areas in need of improvement on their path to becoming leaders.
Dana also serves as a board member for the New Century Trust in Philadelphia, an organization that was founded in 1893 to serve the social, industrial and educational cultivation and improvement of working girls and women. She has previously taught women’s studies classes at Burlington County College and is a registered yoga teacher.
