Sasha Patterson is the NEW Leadership™ program manager. She is responsible for planning and implementation of the annual NEW Leadership™ New Jersey program, which was created by CAWP to educate and inspire college women to become more engaged in politics. Patterson oversees CAWP’s outreach to college women across the state and travels to colleges throughout New Jersey speaking to students about the importance of women’s political participation.
Patterson also manages the NEW Leadership™ National Network, a partnership of colleges and universities hosting regional NEW Leadership programs for college women across the country. She has developed a training manual for Network partners and provides ongoing consultation to assist partners in establishing their own regional NEW Leadership™ programs.
Dr. Patterson received her B.A. in political science from Northwestern University. She received a Ph.D. in political science from Rutgers University in 2008, with a focus on women and politics and women and the law. Her dissertation focused on sexual harassment in employment and she has presented numerous conference papers on the topic.
Her current interests include young women’s political engagement, access to higher education and the impact of public policy on social justice.
