Primary elections were held on Tuesday in Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming. Full results for women in these races are available on this post on our Election Analysis page. One more candidate is yet to be selected to advance in Alaska’s top-four primary; full results post will update as this contest is decided. Full context about women in the 2024 elections, including candidate lists, summaries, and historical comparisons, is available via the Center for American Women and Politics’ (CAWP) Election Watch.
Among the most notable results for women:
- Incumbent U.S. Representative Mary Peltola (D) and challenger Nancy Dahlstrom (R) are two of three candidates that have advanced to the general election in the top-four primary for Alaska’s at-large U.S. House seat. This contest is currently rated as “Lean Democrat” by Cook Political Report.
- In Florida, women are 21 of 55 (38.2%) major-party nominees for U.S. House, including 17 of 28 (60.7%) Democrats and 4 of 27 (14.8%) Republicans. All nine (5D, 4R) incumbent women are favored to win re-election, while all 12 (12D) non-incumbent women nominees are running in contests that currently favor their opponents.
- Former U.S. Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Florida. She will challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R) in a contest currently rated as “Likely Republican” by Cook Political Report. If successful, Mucarsel-Powell would be the first Democratic woman senator from Florida and the second Latina in the U.S. Senate from any state.
- The general election contest for Wyoming’s at-large seat to the U.S. House will be between two women, including incumbent U.S. Representative Harriet Hageman (R) — who is strongly favored to win re-election.
