Primary elections were held on Thursday in Tennessee. Full results for women in these races are available on this post on our Election Analysis page; there are no undecided races with women candidates, so these are the final results for women in the 2024 Tennessee primaries. Full context about women in the 2024 elections, including candidate lists, summaries, and historical comparisons, are available via the Center for American Women and Politics’ (CAWP) Election Watch.
Among the most notable results for women:
- A record number of women are major-party nominees for the U.S. House and U.S. Senate in Tennessee in 2024.
- Women won both major-party nominations for U.S. Senate in Tennessee. Incumbent Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) will be challenged by state Representative Gloria Johnson (D) in a race currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report. This is the first all-woman general election contest for the U.S. Senate in Tennessee. See more contests where women are both major-party nominees for a congressional or gubernatorial office via our Woman vs. Woman fact sheet.
- Of the record 8 (6D, 2R) women nominees for the U.S. House, only incumbent U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R) is currently favored to win. The other 7 (6D, 1R) women nominees are running as challengers in general election contests where the incumbent is strongly favored.
