Kansas

U.S. House

U.S. Representative Sharice Davids (D) has advanced to the general election in Kansas, where she is favored to win re-election this fall.

Michigan

U.S. Senate

Current U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin (D) won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Michigan, where she will compete in a general election contest currently rated as a “Toss Up” by Cook Political Report. This open seat was created by the retirement of U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D), the first and only woman who has represented Michigan in the Senate.

U.S. House

Kristen McDonald Rivet (D) won the Democratic nomination for an open seat in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District that is currently rated as a “Toss Up” by Cook Political Report. She is the only non-incumbent woman House nominee from Michigan who will compete in a general election contest that does not strongly favor her opponent.

Missouri

U.S. Senate

All 3 (3D) women U.S. Senate candidates from Missouri were unsuccessful in the primary election. No woman has served in the U.S. Senate from Missouri since 2019.

Governor

Crystal Quade (D), who currently serves as Missouri House minority leader, won the Democratic nomination for governor. No woman has served as governor of Missouri. This year’s open-seat gubernatorial contest is currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report.

U.S. House

Incumbent U.S. Representative Cori Bush (D) from Missouri was defeated in her primary bid for re-election. She is the first incumbent woman in the U.S. House to lose a primary contest in election 2024.

U.S. House

At present, all non-incumbent women House nominees from Missouri are running in general election contests that strongly favor their opponents.

Washington

U.S. Senate

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D) has advanced to the general election in Washington, where she is strongly favored to win re-election this fall.

U.S. House

Most notable is the potential drop in women members. Incumbent U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R) did not run for re-election and U.S. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D) has advanced to a general election contest that is currently rated as a “Toss Up” by Cook Political Report. Among non-incumbent women nominees, state Senator Emily Randall (D) is favored to win in Washington's 6th Congressional District.

Statewide Executive

Washington has the potential to elect its first woman treasurer. Sharon Hanek (R) will challenge incumbent Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti (D) in November. If successful, Hanek would be the first Asian American/Pacific Islander woman to be elected statewide in Washington. In addition, former U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler (R) is the Republican nominee for commissioner of public lands (an open seat). If successful, she would be the first Latina elected statewide in Washington.
