In Utah, Caroline Gleich (D) will run against John Curtis (R) in an open-seat U.S. Senate contest currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report. No woman has served in the U.S. Senate from Utah.
Incumbent U.S. Representative Celeste Maloy (R), Utah’s sole woman in Congress, is in a Republican primary contest that remains too close to call. One (1D) more woman is a Democratic nominee in a general election contest that strongly favors Republicans.
In Utah, November’s ballots will feature all-women contests for auditor and lieutenant governor, all but assuring that the state will elect its first woman auditor. Incumbent Lieutenant Governor Deidre Harrison (R) is seeking re-election.
South Carolina
In South Carolina, Sheri Biggs (R) won a runoff election to become the Republican nominee in an open-seat U.S. House contest (SC-03) that strongly favors Republicans. With this win, South Carolina could increase its representation of women in Congress by one.
