The Main Street Initiative is the Ohio Democrats’ program to train candidates and campaign managers, in partnership with LEAD Ohio PAC. The program gives Democratic candidates and their staff the tools they need to run and win.

Masters' Program in Elections and Campaign Management

Fordham University

Program currently on hiatus.

Fordham University offers a masters degree in elections and campaign management. The program is designed as a comprehensive, one-year introduction to both theoretical and practical tools necessary to manage political campaigns. Rigorous multidisciplinary instruction in voting behavior, candidate strategy, analysis of survey data, and media management is provided by academics and industry professionals.  The program requires completion of 30 credits. including a professional-level internship in a political consulting firm or a campaign organization.

National Democratic Training Committee

The NDTC offers free, interactive online training for Democratic candidates running for office. We aim to empower any Democrat who wants to be involved in local politics with the tools needed to be successful.

We believe by working with local candidates, we can accomplish three goals: improve the performance of every Democrat up and down the ticket, elect more Democrats to office, and create a deeper bench of qualified candidates for higher office.

The Native Leadership Institute (NLI) is a national training institute created by and for Indigenous peoples, focused on building pathways to leadership at all levels of government and political organizing in the United States. Advance Native Political Leadership is the first and only national Native American-led organization working to address the vast disparity and unique barriers that exist for Indigenous peoples in U.S. politics.

New Jersey AFL-CIO Labor Candidates Program

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE) directs the Labor Candidates Program to instruct union members about fund-raising and election law, research, message development, public speaking, media relations, voter contact, volunteer recruitment, targeting, and get-out-the-vote. The Labor Candidates School and Non-Partisan Training Seminars are the cornerstones of this political program. Participants are awarded full scholarships by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO.

Political Training Boot Camp

Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute

The Congressional Black Caucus Institute political training "Boot Camp" program is an initiative designed to generate a pool of minority professionals who are well-qualified in public and private sector policy issues and the conduct of political campaigns. The one-week program focuses on training candidates, campaign managers, field directors, finance directors, fund raisers, communication directors, volunteer coordinators, campaign schedulers and surrogates. The program will also cover campaign ethics, research and polling, the legislative process, getting out the vote (GOTV), E-campaigning, E-fundraising and issue advocacy. Participants may apply for the program or be nominated by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus; the only requirement is that applicants are registered voters. Boot Camp is conducted on the campus of the National Labor College located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The New American Leaders Project

The Ready to Lead program identifies the immigrant experience as an asset in civic leadership. The curriculum is specifically designed by immigrants for immigrants.Trainings are held regionally in the spring and summer.

Maryland Federation for Republican Women

The Maryland Federation of Republican Women has provided a one-day training program for Republican women interested in running for office.  Attendees in two tracks -- beginner and advanced -- get advice from leading Republican candidates and campaign professionals.

Run for Something will recruit and support talented, passionate young people who will advocate for progressive values now and for the next 30 years, with the ultimate goal of building a progressive bench.

We’ll take a chance on people the usual “institutions” might never encounter. We’ll help people run for offices like state legislatures, mayorships, city council seats, and more. We’ll do whatever it takes to get more under-35 year-olds on the ballot.

Running for Public Office

Coro Center for Civic Leadership - Pittsburgh

Running for Public Office is an nonpartisan experiential learning program of the Coro Center for Civic Leadership in Pittsburgh. Twenty participants attend 42 hours of seminar, conducted in twelve consecutive Thursday evening sessions, that focus on strengthening citizen participation in public elections and increasing the diversity and level of preparation of candidates running for office in Greater Pittsburgh. The course is open to prospective candidates now contemplating running for office and their staffs.

South Carolina Republican party

The South Carolina Republican Party offers campaign training for its members through the South Carolina GOP Academy. Ten 4-5 hour trainings covering a variety of topics are held throughout each election cycle.

Stennis Institute of Government Campaign Training

The Stennis Institute of Government provides day-long political education workshops designed to capture potential candidates, campaign volunteers, and regular citizens interested in the political process.  Training schedules are available at the Institute's website.

The Graduate School of Political Management

The George Washington University

George Washington University offers a master's degree in political management to provide students with hands-on professional experience that is directly applicable to their careers in politics.  Students can focus in advocacy politics, electoral politics, or advanced political skills, with specialized course programs in each area to fit student interests. The MPM requires 36 hours of course work.

Truman National Security Project

The Truman National Security Project is a national security leadership institute that recruits, trains, and positions a new generation of progressives across America to lead on national security. Through multiple training programs, the Project prepares progressive candidates to discuss national security issues. Truman National Security Bootcamps are one-day trainings tailored to state and local candidates, progressive activists, and progressive organizations' membership and leadership. Military 101 courses are 90 minute sessions are taught by progressive veterans that offer an introduction to the U.S. military's structure and culture for public leaders and citizens. The Truman National Security Project also provides fellowships, internships, and executive education programs.

Veterans Campaign

Veterans Campaign is the first ever non-partisan, non-ideological organization whose mission is to train veterans to run for public office. Our goal is to demystify the process of campaigning for public office and encourage more veterans to continue their legacy of public service as elected officials. To that end, Veterans Campaign holds campaign training workshops, sponsors lectures, and conducts research, all aimed at helping veterans learn more about the campaign process.
