Susan N. Wilson NEW Leadership® NJ 2024 Summer Institute Application

Susan N. Wilson NEW Leadership® (NEWL) NJ is a statewide college women’s public leadership training program at the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), a unit of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers-New Brunswick. This three-day residential summer institute educates college students about the important role that politics plays in the lives of women, introduces them to successful women leaders, and provides them with the tools to become more involved in the political process.

CAWP’s mission is to promote greater knowledge and understanding about the role of women in American politics, enhance women's influence in public life, and expand the diversity of women in politics and government. As the world has watched Americans electing women for the nation's highest offices, including the first woman Vice-President, CAWP’s five decades of analyzing and interpreting women’s participation in American politics has provided a foundation and context for the discussion.  CAWP’s education and outreach programs, such as NEW Leadership®, translate its cutting-edge research findings into action, providing NEW Leadership® participants with the opportunity to learn from scholars and affiliates of CAWP and gain access to its many resources.

NEW Leadership®, a non-partisan three-day residential program, gives undergraduate students the tools to become effective leaders in the political arena regardless of their academic interests or career path. The Susan N. Wilson NEW Leadership® New Jersey summer institute is a non-partisan, three-day residential program that will take place June 7-9, 2024 at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. During the summer institute, students will meet women leaders, learn about women’s participation in American politics, and develop and practice leadership skills through panel discussions, workshops, and projects. After the summer institute, participants become part of NEWL’s national network of distinguished alumnae.
