2022: Ketanji Brown Jackson is appointed as an associate justice

Ketanji Brown Jackson was appointed as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court by President Joseph Biden, becoming the first Black woman and sixth female member of the Court. Brown Jackson had been appointed in 2013 to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by President Barack Obama and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2021 by President Joseph Biden.
